World Series of Poker: Cheney man 6th in cards |
|
LAS VEGAS — Las Vegas'
Rod Pardey Jr. increased his leading chip count and Lee Watkinson of
Cheney remained the best bet among eight Washington entrants still alive
as the World Series of Poker slashed its original field of 5,619 Texas
Holdem players to 300 yesterday.
State players in
contention
Best bet: Lee Watkinson, Cheney, $461,000. Still in: James Butt, Buckley; Carl Olson, Seattle; Steven Marx, Bellevue; Corlan Chinn, Seattle; Yong Pak, Bainbridge; Ryan Porter, Raymond; Sean Ly, Seattle. All of the remaining Texas Holdem players will end up taking home at least $24,365, enough to cover the $10,000 buy-in plus expenses. Pardey had $810,000 in chips as of late last night, while Watkinson had $461,100, nearly a $125,000 one-day boost. They will be among those shooting for a spot at the final nine-person table in which the first one out will take home $1 million and the winning Texas Holdem player will collect $7.5 million. State players eliminated yesterday: Brian Decater, Renton, 347th place ($21,070 in winnings); Kerry Petre, Ellensburg, 379th ($18,335); Ryan Wimmery, Vancouver, 488th ($14,135); and Scott Clements, Mount Vernon, 529th ($12,500). Still in the running was patent lawyer Greg "Fossilman" Raymer, the 2004 champ who was in ninth place with a strong stack of chips as Texas Holdem play resumed yesterday. Raymer is the only former champion of the World Series of Poker's main event still standing out of the 14 who started in the tournament.
