Saitek
on Schedule to Launch Handheld Poker at CES - and Discovery
Channel Stores is One of Several Major Retailers to Place
Order
Saitek Industries
Ltd. (www.saitekusa.com) today announced that it is on
schedule to launch its first handheld poker game, a No Limit
Texas Holdem poker computer. With units shipping Jan. 15,
demand for this handheld poker game has been extremely high.
Discovery Channel Stores and other major retailers will
carry the unit. Texas Holdem is the most popular form of
casino poker, made even more popular by the World Series of
Poker broadcasts on ESPN, the World Poker Tour, and
Celebrity Poker on Bravo Channel. To capitalize on this
growing trend, Saitek will be debuting this game in a
handheld format at CES 2005, and it will be showcasing the
product at Toy Fair 2005. No Limit Texas Holdem is a
favorite with both advanced poker players and beginners
alike, offering the perfect balance of chance and strategy
to attract aficionados of all levels. The game will be
priced around $50.
Unlike competing
handhelds, Saitek's No Limit Texas Holdem will feature the
latest chip technology, a full-size portrait screen (shaped
like a poker table) and a high-resolution sound chip for
realistic gaming sound effects (including card shuffling,
card dealing and a variety of "winning" tunes). Users can
also adjust play speed and difficulty. The game allows users
to play against up to three opponents simultaneously for
true competitive flavor. In addition, the user can assign
one of three skills levels to their computer opponent:
conservative, aggressive or statistical.
"We have been
closely watching the poker craze and especially the
popularity of Texas Holdem," said Saitek USA CEO Bill
McMahon. "Saitek has a strong history for producing winning
electronic forms of play, so we decided to get ahead of the
pack and move quickly to give the public what it wants - a
way to play Texas Holdem - anywhere."
McMahon went on
to say that he felt Saitek was the best company to
manufacture the game and get it out quickly since Saitek is
one of the few hardware peripheral companies that owns its
own manufacturing facilities and has the expertise and sales
channel to successfully bring small form factor games to the
mass market.
