About Monaco & Monte-Carlo
Though roughly the size of Central Park, the
independent and sovereign Principality of Monaco has
managed to maintain its mystique as Europe's most
cherished enclave. Synonymous with royalty, glamour
and excitement, Monaco continues to attract
international pleasure seekers to the 'jewel-box of
the Riviera.' Monaco's undiminished reputation as a
first-class gaming destination is complemented by an
enduring commitment to the arts, by the preservation
of its cultural traditions and by the protection of
the environment. Monte-Carlo, its most famous
district, owes its fame to the casinos. Associated
with the most elegant of parties, gambling has been
the ruling master of Monte-Carlo since 1863, when
Prince Charles III inaugurated the first great casino.
A monumental work of art dedicated to lady luck, heads
of state and international stars flock to the world's
best gaming tables to try their luck. But the choice
of location has widened to include other first-class
casinos such as the Cafe de Paris, the Sun Casino, and
the Salles des Palmiers, which now add to the
Principality's most famous pastime.
