Texas HoldEm poker tourney will benefit MDA |

Poker players will have a
chance to win a trip to Las Vegas as part of the Muscular Dystrophy
Association's Texas HoldEm tournament on Friday in Wisconsin Rapids. The games begin at 6 p.m. at the Ridges Golf Course, 2311 Griffith Ave. Participants can pre-register for the tournament at http:WYTE.com, or starting at 5 p.m. Friday at the event. The fee to play Texas HoldEm is $50 and all proceeds will go to MDA. MDA is a nonprofit group that aims to defeat 43 neuromuscular diseases through research, client and community services and public health education. Juvenile arthritis camp available The Arthritis Foundation's Camp M.A.S.H., Make Arthritis Stop Hurting, will be held August 7-12 at a private campsite near Wisconsin Dells. Camp M.A.S.H. welcomes children ages 9-17 who have juvenile arthritis or a related rheumatic disease. This year there also will be a weekend mini-camp for families with children 8 and under who have JA. The mini-camp will be held August 6-7 and will give parents a chance to see what is involved with camp as well as an opportunity to network and consult with available medical professionals. Call Gayle at the Wisconsin Chapter office (800) 242-9945 to register or for more information about Camp M.A.S.H Smoking cessation classes to begin The next "You Can Quit" session, offered through St. Michael's Hospital and Rice Medical Center, begins Monday and will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 2501 Main Street, Conference Room B, across from P.J. Jacobs Jr. High. Smokers who participate in cessation programs are four times more likely to quit smoking than those who try on their own, according to a survey evaluating the Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line. To register for the free 10-week program, call HEALTHLINE at 346-5463. This program, which meets every Monday, is open to community members interested in tobacco cessation and will help participants with strategies and recommendations designed to help them quit. There will also be group help for members to cope with potential urges to use tobacco. Cemetery Association to meet Tuesday The St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery Association meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the cemetery on Highway N in the town of Buena Vista. Agenda includes consideration of need for turn around space, authorization of expenses, pictorial history and mowing of lawn. |
