TEXAS HOLDEM ONLINE POKER

D. Dale Archer, Jr., MD, a local psychiatrist, was one of the big winners at the 35th Annual World Series of Poker held recently in Las Vegas. Archer, who has only been playing poker for a year, was one of more than 2500 poker players from around the globe who participated in the event, considered to be the richest event in all of sports. The total prize pool at this year's tournament reached $49 million, a new poker tournament record.

For his 11th place finish, just two shy of a seat at the final table, Archer won $373,000.

The annual World Series of Poker ranks as the oldest, largest, most prestigious, and most media-hyped gaming competition in the world. It is also unique in that is allows unknowns and pros to pit their skills in a high-stake game. The Series will be broadcast on ESPN beginning on July 6.

Archer is a well-known columnist, radio and television personality in Southwest Louisiana, as well as the founder if the Institute for Neuropsychiatry.
