I'm going to post trip reports on each session that I play at the Brantford Casino throughout the summer. I'll probably play around 2-3 session per week, depending on my work hours for the week.
I sat down at the usual $5/$10 table with $140.
I kickstarted with a win on the first hand I played from the BB:
I pick up J9o and check. The flop is A J x. Checks all around, and the turn is an 8. I knew no one had an ace so check-raised, and everyone folded. This was the only time I tried semi-bluffing all night because I knew that I couldn't bluff most of these guys, who would call with any piece of the board.
Other hands:
I pick up QJo and I flop top pair, Queens. I check-call. The turn is a rag, I check-call. The river is a J, and I check-raise. I beat AQo on the river. That was a close one.
I pick up TT and the flop is 9 high. I check-raise, only a couple left. The turn is a rag, I bet and only one left. The river is a 7, and I bet. I lose to 97o, two pairs. Gay.
I pick up AcJc and raise in middle-late position. I flop top pair, Jacks. I bet and get one caller. The turn is an A, and I check-raise. The river is a rag, and I check-raise. The caller had KK to my top two pair. Thank, idiot.
I pick up KK and raise in middle position. All undercards to the turn, and I was betting both rounds. The river is an A, and I just check it. Some idiot was calling me the whole time and hit an ace at the end. WTF.
I pick up KK again, raise preflop and call a re-raise. The flop is 9 8 2, the betting is capped with three players. The turn is a rag, and I check-raise. The river is another rag, and I check-raise again. One guy has AA and the other guy has 99 for a set. Took a big hit there, as did the guy with AA. I should've known one of them made a set when the betting was capped on the flop. Stupid me...
I went up and down a few times during the session. I was up to as high as $400 and down to around $100. I got cold cards for a period of 2 hours and lost some money from blinds and playing marginal hands (J9, Q9, T8, etc.). Then I got sick of waiting for good cards and played cards that seemed to be winning for all of the bad players:
I pick up 4h3h and limp in. The flop comes two hearts. I hit my flush on the turn and check-call. On the river, I check-raised and took the pot.
I pick up 6s5s and limp in. The flop is 7 6 6, and I check-call. The turn is a rag, and I check-raise. The river is a 5, and I check-raise. My boat beat some guy's turned straight.
After I got my stack back up, I tightened up again. I got cold cards again. All night, I never made a set with my pocket pairs which I got maybe once an orbit.
Throughout the session, I witnessed more quads than an Olympic track team. This one guy had 22 in the SB, and the betting was capped preflop. The flop was 22A, checks all around. The turn is another A, there's some betting and calling. The river is a rag, and the guy with quads check-raises. I also saw quad 5's, Q's, and T's.
There's always an idiot/maniac at every table, last night was no different. This guy played pretty much any hand. This one time he played 32o and hit his 2 on the flop and bet out. The river was another 2. WTF. He also raised preflop with 42o once and managed to flop the nut straight, everyone folded on the flop. He was cracking everyone's overpairs with ridiculous hand that hit two pairs or trips. I forget how much he started with, but he cashed out with around $1,000. I couldn't believe how a player who plays almost any "decent" hand, regardless of position, can win that much in a single session.
I ended up losing $140 in my ten hour session. Not that bad considering a bunch of other players had to rebuy multiple times within hours of sitting down, but I should've known to cash out when I was up to around $300-400.
I'm already considering jumping up to the $10/$20 tables, just for the sake of playing with better quality players. But I'll wait until I can beat the $5/$10 consistently, and build up a bankroll.
My next session will probably be Friday, since I don't work that day. Take care until then...
Sooo, I get AKs in 5/10NL on UB in EP I make it 25 to go, get raised 50$(BigBlind) fine...I call. No one else calls, Flop comes AcKh8s..The Big Prick(aka BB) bets out 100$, I quickly bet(no raise). Turn comes 4s..NICE...i got the top to pair along with nut flush draw. Big Prick goes all-in $570 I have him covered +about 200$ and I call. River comes 8h. Big Prick turns over A8c..what? BOAT!! Ofcourse, we've all been bad beat...but this one hurts man, the pot was well over a grand. The reason I say I need help is since this I've really lost focus -220..also I chase tooo many flush and str8 draws. This is undoubtedly the weakest part of my game, that I just cant focus out. Please help. Cursing me out is welcome!!
Take some time off. A few weeks back I was there too. I started pushing bluffs too hard, and playing marginal hands. I lost an all in bet with AA pre-flop. Opponent had AK and made a flush. My biggest problem was making big crying calls when I knew I was beat. I took some time off, and now I'm back on my game and kicking some serious ass. I don't know if it's just cooincidence but I seem to have my most intense rushes after big losing streaks.
I would like to analize the hand real fast.
Preflop, BB raised to $50, calling no problem there.
My problem is your slow playing the flop, top two pair, and you only called the $100. If I had 2 pair on the flop I would have sensed this as weakness, so when I see a flush develop on the turn I am going to go big to make you pay to see it, thinking I had the best of it, 2 pair. Going
all in may be a little extreme, but would go at least pot size.
My feeling is if you raise on the flop, you would have a chance to fold on the river if he goes all in there. This may not have saved you any of your cash, but maybe.
You HAVE to re-raise him on the flop. You knew you had him beat, so you have to protect your two pair from getting beat on 4/5th street.
You NEVER slowplay two pair, much less so in NL. Also, you don´t want to chase str8 and flushes in NL, that´s a big time money burner. If you like to chase, go play Omaha.
You said you´ve really lost the focus beeing down 220. Was that a typo? Beeing down 220 in 5/10 NL is next to nothing, it´s not even 1 hand with a normal sized pot. I´m sometimes down that much by just folding when I absolutely hit nothing but have to post the blinds.
i dont think he played it all that bad to be honest...given the circumstances he out outs to win even he was slowplaying a little....the other guy flopped 2 pair and in this case....i dont think a reraise on the flop would have any effect on the hand...the other guy would have called or just reraised again all in...
he lost to a 2outer on the river...just a tough beat...
I feel that if he had raised on the flop he would not have been put all in on the turn. And when the 8 hit the river he would have had an oppertunity to fold when the guy went all in.
Slow playing before and after the flop cost him the chance to make a good fold. Heck if he raises on the flop, and then bets the turn he may get the other player to lay down before the 8 hits the river.
even if he had raised on the flop...and just for agruements sake...the other guy just called the raise...turn is a sh-it 4...so now what happens...i can tell you A8 aint going anywhere...so AK bets out and again sake of arguements...A8 calls...river is the dreaded 8...A8 goes all in....is 2pair with top kicker going to fold with what (well over 500 in the pot already)...you really gonna put the guy on trip 8's?....
not nitpicking and i know there are a lot of people on here who can analyze a hand far better than me...but on this hand...nothing was gonna change either way...A8 guy raises 50 preflop with a trash hand...and fires out a pot sized bet after the flop...he wasnt going anywhere especially when he was on the other end of his computer thinking he had the best hand...
