texas holdem,
First off don't feel bad. You are off on your way with a great texas holdem poker game, and it sounds like you faired pretty well for your first time.
Now I am a rookie so take what I say with a grain of salt. And I am going to try to avoid the jargon that gets used a lot and explain it the most common way I can.
I would suggest against moving all-in as the first person to act with players behind you on just an A high. You do not have a feel for your opponent, his/her cards, and you are beat by any pair.
All-in's could be used as a over the top move. Check to your opponent, let him bet. Here you can decide to move all in if you want (I would not have moved all-in regardless with just the A texas holdem poker high).
In your case all you were trying to "steal" was a the pre-flop raise with your all-in. You have to be concerned that your opponent had something with his raise before the flop. You didn't make (or better your hand) anything here so a check would have been a better choice. Then the decision has to be made if he bets into you again.
Even on the small stack you need to feel that you have the best texas holdem poker hand or atleast that you can scare off your oponent with the bet. Knowing your opponent's style is just as important as the cards in heads up.
That is a little bit jarbled for advice. I am at work and only had a sec or two. The other guys/gals in here do a great job explaining theory and proper play technique. Best of luck to you and hope this helped a little.
