Texas Holdem Poker
I was just wondering b/c on yahoo texas holdem, the person first after the flop at times cannot bet, only check or fold. I asked somebody there, and they told me you have to have Jacks or better to bet initially in that position. Anyone ever heard of this??

Texas Holdem for Advanced Players by Skylansky is a must read...it has a much more liberal, reasonable hand chart...details prefolp cards you should playin what position...and gives great post flop advice...cocky players taht are dead money should be ignored, but if other dead money stops playing as a result, you might have to tell him to knock it off or you won't invite him to play anymore, and tell him the reason is that he is upsetting other players "with his loud talk and superior play"...
-Getting Turbo Texas Holdem for Christmas (hopefully)
-pokerchris-the books that i have so far are super/system (brunson, obviously), play poker like the pros (hellmuth), and championship no-limit and pot limit hold 'em (cloutier), there are several other books at my house that are my fathers including caro's poker tell's book and one other that i don't remember the title of. are there any other recommendations you have?
also-last night i went by hellmuths advice in play poker like the pros and raised preflop every time i got a top 10 hand. but of course, this didn't help in such a loose game and i got outdrawn a few times. however, i broke even-bought back in after i did my homework and did a little better than doubling up. i started to do a lot better once i started playing extremely tight/agressive like i am used to and am definetly not going to start playing looser at all.
should i keep playing only top 10 (except maybe 7's or A/Q off if i am in bad position)? should i play other hands if i have good position? (ie. JAo or QKo ?)
These kids admittingly see the flop every time and will question me for laying down a J9o in bad position. Also, how should I go about dealing with cocky players that talk smack ALL the time and criticize other people's play constantly? The kid who does this is dead money, so I try to ignore him but it is almost to the point where other people won't want to play as often if he is playing.
I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good books for low limit texas hold-em. I have read the book by Lee Jones. This book gives you a basic playing guide (what to play, what not to). However, it leads to being very predictable at the table. Also, it provides no information on reading other players and other details.
Turbo Texas Holdem which is a software program which simulates holdem. You can ask the program what it thinks you should do and it will tell you - they call this feature 'Mike the advisor'. When you challenge the Advisor - you will not be allowed to ask for help for a set period and you play your best poker - while Mike gets dealt the same cards as you against the same opponents (in some parallel ether-verse) and who-ever has the most money at the end of 50 or 100 or 200 hands - wins.
I am hosting my first Texas Holdem NL tourney in a couple weeks. I would like to hear about any and all problems people have encountered when playing/hosting a home tournament.
I would like to head off as many problems here instead of 4 hours into it with only 2 guys left. I don't want us sitting there sayin, "we didn't think of that!"
Also, any suggestions on structure are greatly appreciated. We will have 6 guys, $50.00 buy in, no limit, and 240 chips divided by 4 colors evenly.
If you had the opportunity to attend a Poker Seminar and Exhibition - which also included a Texas Hold-Em No Limit Tournament - Who would you like to see as Speaker(s) and why?
Try the Free Games, Texas Hold'em, tables right here on this web site.
From the main menu, select Free Games.
Click on Texas Hold'em.
Register and then select a table. Only table 1 is ever used, so tables 2 thru 5 are usually available. The tables seat 8.
At least you all could get together and have some fun as there is chat too.
Oh, the game is kind of hokey and doesn't really represent a "real" hold'em table. (Which is actually surprising since this is a Poker Site!)
Check it out, usually you can get a seat on table 1.
The potential for action has been computed for Texas Hold'em, traditional seven card stud, stud 435, straight and California lowball, and Omaha.
Greetings, Been reading the posts on this forum for several months but am first time user. Great info on this forum! Anyone have any info on Live play in Texas..specifically the "Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino" in Eagle Pass. Looking for low-mid limit holdem game. Anyone played there?
I was playing Texas Hold em with a bunch of friends, not at a casino, so we were unsure about the outcome of the hand. My friend held a 6 and a 5 and I had a 6 and a 4. The community cards were a King, a 6, 8,8, and a 10. The decision was that he won, because his 5 was higher than my 4. My argument was that you can only look at 5 cards, in which case we would draw (6,6,8,8,King). We looked the definition of kicker up and some random website claimed a kicker is the card in your hand, and he took the pot. Who was right?
I am 31 and have a 7 year old son that is fantastic at Texas Hold 'Em. He has beat anyone I've ever put him up against. Even my own Dad, who I always thought to be the master! We only play for "chips", not for real money, but I was wondering if there are any tournaments for little guys? He is so good and I would love to give him the opportunity to hone his skills with real players and not just family. Anyone know of anything like that?
