Im on the button in a sit n go on PS and im dealt pocket 9s ... And its just the start of the tourney and blinds are @ 25/50 and i raise 400 ..aggressive play hoping to get it heads up with someone ..but i get two callers...
Flop comes as a rainbow 10 j 4...Not good for me..Table checks ....Turn card is a q... This gives me an open ended straight draw....The SB bets 100.....gets called by both players including myself..River is a 9.....That gives me a set of nines...But an 8 or a king kills me.....The Sb comes out and bets 300..i can live with paying that..But the BB, other player involved comes over the top for 900 more..i think long and hard and i fold my set of nines... the sb calls and MUCKS her hand to the BB who shows JUST TWO PAIR queens and 10s and takes a big pot down..... I mucked the winner but im sort of glad i can laydown a good hand AS MUCH AS I DESPISE!!!! reading a play wrong...... im pretty sure most other players might fold with the table the way it was? or did i do a bad laydown
No doubt.... it was the right move. Considering the raised preflop, wouldnt you want to know whats out there by making a bet??? Sorta like a bluff representing a high pair... you might have chased some people out right there.
Ive been limping in with pocket pairs of late and you get 5-7 callers in a sit n go at start of tourney so yes..in that case you will lose most of time unless u hit a set...But heads up i do believe a pair of 9s is a respectable hand
Pair of 9's you limp in hoping to get a low flop or a 9. once you saw 10, J on flop and someone raises you should have folded. You got lucky with the river but in the long run if you play like that you'll end up losing.
Checking it shows weakness, but it also gives your opponents a Free Card, and with 9s, you cant afford to let anyone catch a high card or a straight draw. You gotta be aggressive at this point, represent you got top pair.
As for your preflop raise... like pokerplayboy said, i will agree with your decision, but be aware about how much u raise preflop with a mid pair. Heads up, its pretty good, but with 4-5 callers... unless u flop a set, you will pretty much be beaten on the flop. Remember that!!
Either bet strong preflop, or just limp in hoping to bust someone on the flop or get lowe cards.
