I was sitting at 1/2 table last night and I was on a bit of a rush. 15 minutes into it, I got KK in middle position. I raised preflop. 6 people stayed in. The flop came XXA rainbow. We all checked around. Although I didn't know these particular 9 players, I have played with this 1/2 crowd long enough to know that nobody folds an Ace preflop. They will literally play any old A so I was concerned about the likely overpair. Even when nobody bet, it could have been a trap. On the turn, there was a bet and a call in front of me so I folded. The winning hand was a pair of 8's.
How the hell can I honestly call a bettor and a caller in front of 2 other possible callers with KK when an A is on the board and nobody is afraid of my preflop raise? My raise indicated at least KK if not AA or AK. There's an A on board so why would anyone call me without at least A's up?
Am I asking too much of a 1/2 table?
Am I totally off base with this kind of thinking?
Should I just roll the dice and play any old reasonably high pair unless I'm looking at a straight or better on the board?
With an "any ace" crowd, folding when 6 players take an ace high flop isn't a losing play in the long run. Considering that many 1-2 players have a master's degree in chase-ology, it's suprising when you have AK in that spot and it holds up.
The only play with KK is to lay into the raiser and if he sticks then give up on the KK. At any low limit table, the ace anything guy is the most common player on the table.
